Welcome to the Linux WiMAX development project.
WiMAX is the next generation broadband wireless technology, based on IEEE 802.16e standards. It provides digital connectivity for purposes of internetworking and telecommunications. Many different products are being designed around the application of WiMAX. These range from laptops, ultra-mobile notebook PCs (UMPCs), Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), and variety of handhelds.
A typical user experience involves as a first step activating the device on a WiMAX network provided by an Internet Service Provider. Once subscription is complete, the user will be able to connect for service.
The project currently supports the following:
- Generic WiMAX stack user space and kernel space components.
Intel WiMAX devices eg. IntelĀ® WiMAX/WiFi Link 5050 (Codename: Echo Peak). Includes: driver, network service, and test configuration utility.
See the hardware support matrix for more information on supported hardware.
